Definition: A sustained note in a chord that is outside of the chords repeated to create a specific effect.

Types of Pedal:

Dominant Pedal:

When the pedal used is the dominant key of the current key, the pedal is a dominant pedal.

Inverted Dominant Pedal:

When the pedal or sustained note occurs in the highest voice, it is said to be an inverted pedal. Therefore, a dominant pedal is the highest voice sustaining the dominant note of the key is an inverted dominant pedal.

Inner Pedals:

When the sustained note occurs in the middle of the texture, it is an inner pedal as it is inside and blends out with the highest voice and low bass.
